What a great idea! I was about to spend a fortune on a hotel for my partner and I to go to Wellington for a wedding, but found a fantastic house swap opportunity on the site. Easy peasy. No problems...

About us

Member ID: 13044

We are a family of 3. We moved to NZ from the UK in 2008 and to Wellington in late 2015. Our son is 9 years old and we have a lovely dog, a labraspoodle. We both work in healthcare though I (Mum) am mainly at home at present. As a family we love being outside. We enjoy walking, swimming and snorkeling in the sea. We are currently trying to complete all the "Wellington walkways". On wet days we enjoying baking together and craft activities. We would like to explore more of New Zealand. We would like to take our dog on holiday with us, if this is not possible we would make arrangements for him to be looked after.

Property description and facilities

Our character home in Island Bay was built in 1924 and retains many of its original features. It has been renovated and is fully insulated with good heating. The living area is open plan with a modern kitchen and a dining area adjoining this. The lounge has underfloor heating and bi-fold doors that open on to a deck. The main bathroom has a bath with a shower over the bath. The en-suite has a toilet and wash basin. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, the second bedroom has a double bed and our son's room has a single bed. There is a sofa in our son's bedroom, a small child can sleep comfortably on this. The small back garden is fully fenced with paving and an area of lawn. We have a spring free trampoline. The deck looks out over the garden towards a hill covered with native bush. There is a large playing field a 2 minute walk from the house, the beach is about a 20 minute walk away.

Location description and facilities

We love Island Bay, it is a beautiful part of Wellington. From our house it is a 20 minute walk to the beach. From the beach there is a lovely walk around the coast. There are also walks over the hills that can be done from our house. Island Bay is a self contained suburb, it has everything you need all within walking distance of the house: cinema, supermarket, butcher, and cafes. In addition to the playground by the beach the local school playgrounds are also worth visiting. Island Bay is within a marine reserve so there is lots to see in the sea. There is a marked out snorkel trail. The Island Bay marine education center is open every Sunday with many marine creatures for children to see and touch. The number 1 bus will take you into town. We love walking along the waterfront in town, there is much to see and do with crocodile bikes to hire and some lovely playgrounds.
