Short video about Kiwi House Swap and people's experiences using the site and with house swapping.

What a great idea! I was about to spend a fortune on a hotel for my partner and I to go to Wellington for a wedding, but found a fantastic house swap opportunity on the site. Easy peasy. No problems...

About us

Member ID: 22369

We (Allan and Dale) are a semi-retired couple in our late 50's. Allan is an economist and I write teaching resources. We have two adult children, both living in Christchurch - we'd love to spend some more time visiting them - and particularly at Christmas - so house swapping seems to be the perfect arrangement. Allan enjoys music - he plays Guitar and Ukulele and is teaching himself Mandolin. He is a keen Bridge player and has been doing up a classic boat - a small replica Hudson Bay Tug Boat - which is now in the water and moored at the bottom of the garden. I make pottery and ceramics. We both belong to a quiz team and we enjoy walking and exploring the Bay of Islands. We have an elderly Cocker Spaniel - Monty - who is currently snoring on one of the many beds he has around the house. He's not a high energy dog!

Property description and facilities

Our house overlooks Kerikeri Inlet in the beautiful Bay of Islands with the magical views you would expect from such an iconic area.

If you would like to experience all the Bay of Islands has to offer, we would be delighted to share our home with you. Our home is nicely furnished, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen. It is Light, airy and tastefully decorated.

The living room opens out to both sides of the house. On the waterside we have a large deck which is the perfect place in summer for eating out while enjoying the view and watching the boats go by. On the other side, a sheltered, sunny courtyard. The house has an open (gas) fireplace and a heat pump.

The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and views out to the bay of islands and across Kerikeri inlet from a small balcony. There are two other bedrooms - both doubles - one on the ground floor and another on the second floor - with views across the inlet.

Walk down the garden path to your very own swimming spot, or launch your boat, kayak or paddleboard from the boat ramp - 200 metres down the road.

Not many photos up yet - we're in the middle of redecorating - but will post more when that is done.

Location description and facilities

Our property is 200 metres from a boat ramp and jetty, tennis courts and play area, and some pretty bush walks are right on the doorstep. Take a walk at night and you might even come across some local kiwi fossicking in the bush. Five minutes drive is Doves Bay Marina and a little further on you'll discover Opito Bay, which has a quiet beach and a walk over the hill to Te Puna Inlet.

The Famous Stone Store and Kemp House is 10 minutes drive away. Spend an hour at The Parrot Place, and you'll definitely come away smiling.

Kerikeri township which, along with cinema, theatre, restaurants and cafes, supermarkets and boutiques and specialist shops, has everything you need in a town (skate park, swimming pool, library etc) is just 15 Minutes drive.

The town has two farmers' markets: a small Sunday Market in the town centre and the larger Old Packhouse Market which hums with activity on a Saturday and Sunday. Across the road from the Old Packhouse is Makana Chocolates - stop in at their cafe for ice cream and delicious pastries, and call into the chocolate factory shop to try a few of their chocolate samples - don't leave without trying the macadamia butternut crunch.

Also within 15 minutes drive of the property are rivers with legendary swimming holes such as Charlies Rock. The bush walk from Rainbow Falls to The Stone Store is delightful.
