Short video about Kiwi House Swap and people's experiences using the site and with house swapping.

What a great idea! I was about to spend a fortune on a hotel for my partner and I to go to Wellington for a wedding, but found a fantastic house swap opportunity on the site. Easy peasy. No problems...

About us

Member ID: 4377

Chris, Tineke (parents) and our daughters Katie (17) and Luci (14) live in the old seaside suburb of Devonport in a beautiful old villa (but very much a lived in family home) in a quiet street with really friendly neighbours. As a family we have travelled extensively overseas using Airbnb - but also on an informal basis house swapping with other families. There is something always really nice about staying in a home - somewhere that is lived in - rather than motel or hotel! Our home is filled with books, comfy chairs to read in, and big tables to share food over.

Property description and facilities

Our home is an old villa complete with pressed tin ceilings, fireplace, bay windows and big verandahs (perfect for cups of tea in the morning - glass of wine in the evening). We have fruit trees and a small vegetable garden. The house was renovated 4 years ago (yay no more outside toilet) and so is very warm and sunny. There are two sets of very high french doors from the kitchen / dining area that lead onto a large verandah. The verandah is perfect for eating, lounging, sleeping, reading and entertaining and has views towards Mt Victoria. There is a park at the bottom of the street for children and the beaches are a 15 -20 min walk away. One of the local wharves (Stanley Bay) is perfect for wharf jumping! The village of Devonport is a 15 minute walk away (cafes, art galleries, picture theatre), The city is just a 12 min ferry ride across the harbour from Devonport. There are three bedrooms - one with a queen bed and ensuite, one with a queen bed, and the last with a double bed (on a mezzanine floor) and a window seat / bed below. There are two mattresses that can be used for extra guests. We have two cats (one fat and grey, the other slim and black and white) who are very friendly and attentive.
