Property type and description

House

* Looking for a December 2020 / Jan 2021 swap **

We live in a modern cedar house (built in 2016) in the Eastern Bays area of Auckland with lots of light and space. We overlook Tahuna Torea nature reserve, a beautiful seaside bird sanctuary with walking trails.

We have 2 boys and so the house is set up well for families with a heated pool, outdoor spa, outdoor barbecue area and plenty of room to mess about in the garden. We have 2 sea kayaks and 4 mountain bikes for guest use.

St Heliers and Mission Bay, both popular town beaches, are a few minutes away and have lots of cafes, bars and restaurants.

Glen Innes train station is a few minutes away by car and from here there are frequent services into the centre of the city, a 12 minute journey by rail.

We also look over to Half Moon Bay, the ferry terminal for services to Waiheke Island. Frequent services make the 45 minute journey to Waiheke which is a stunning island known for its beaches and vineyards.

We are happy to consider any swaps - weekend, short break, or school holidays anywhere in NZ.

  • Description

    Glendowie, the suburb where we live, is unique in being close to town but feeling like the countryside. As well as being by the sea, it has a nature reserve with some great walks and several other green spaces including Churchill Park where cows graze - not something you see every day in a big city! There are some lovely cafes within walking distance. St Heliers, the closest shopping area, is a seaside village a few minutes away in the car and has a butcher, bakeries, library, cafes. bars and excellent restaurants - everything you need for a great break.

    A 15 minute train ride away (or 45 minute bike ride along the seaside bike path) is the centre of Auckland, with great restaurants, museum, art gallery and shopping and a fabulous harbour area for people watching and superyacht ogling.

    An hour north is Matakana, a vibrant beachside village with a great weekend market and some lovely vineyards such as Brick Bay with its great sculpture garden. An hour west is the wild west coast, great for hiking and surfing at beaches such as Piha and Muriwai.

    Waiheke Island is 45 minutes on the ferry, a fab weekend destination with world class vineyards, restaurants and beautiful beaches.

    Auckland is also a good base for trips further afield - 2 hours from Rotorua, 4 hours from Taupo and 2 hours from the Coromandel Coast.

    We are a family of 4 from Auckland who enjoy mountain biking, walking and eating out .

    We moved from the UK ten years ago and have made it a mission to explore as much of New Zealand as we can over the years.
