What a great idea! I was about to spend a fortune on a hotel for my partner and I to go to Wellington for a wedding, but found a fantastic house swap opportunity on the site. Easy peasy. No problems...

There are 3 of us (plus Marmite the kitten, his mother Marmalade a tabby and Angus the rabbit). We (Rebecca and David) are both in our mid 50's and George is our 14 year old son. We love tennis, skiing, windsurfing, sunshine and travelling. We are not precious about our home - it's comfortable and very well located. We have lived in Devonport since 2004 and have found it to be quite a special place that combines beaches, parks, sports fields, historic buildings and cottages with enough cafes and shops to keep it interesting but with the city so accessible across the water only a 10 min ferry ride away. We are keen to swap with a Wanaka couple / family over late December/ Early Jan - hope you can help
Some locations we are interested in visiting
Our home is a brick and tile 2 and half bedroom house with lovely sun drenched decks at the front and back of the house (perfect for cups of tea in the morning - glass of wine in the evening). The front deck has views of Mt Victoria and the golf course across the road. Cheltenham Beach is a 5 min walk from our home (on the way there are a few shops and a couple of lovely cafes one of which is http://www.chateaubriant.co.nz/, a gorgeous french cafe and patissere). The long sandy stretch of Cheltenham Beach is popular with locals and visitors for swimming, strolling and relaxing! There are also grassy areas that are great for picnics and enjoying fish and chips by the beach. An 8 min walk in the other direction will take you to Narrowneck beach with it's own cafe (yummy pies). This beach is an ideal one to launch the boat as well as doing all the other beachy things. One of the local wharves (Stanley Bay) is perfect for wharf jumping! The village of Devonport with its history and heritage is a 15 minute walk away and has heaps of cafes, art galleries, a movie theatre etc to keep you as busy or relaxed as you want to be. Downtown Auckland is just a 10 min ferry ride across the harbour from Devonport. You can also catch a ferry to Waiheke and explore its vineyards from Devonport Our home isn't big but there are bedrooms - two of them! Our bedroom has a large comfy king sized bed and George's room has a single bed. There is a mattress that can be used for extra guests. The kitchen is compact but no dishwasher ! (Don't fret - it's actually quite relaxing to wash dishes believe me !). We have wifi and a 50 inch TV with Sky and Apple TV. Lot's of room at the front of the house to park cars, boats, pitch tents, play badminton etc. We have one black cat called Marmite, his mother a tabby called Marmalade and a cheeky rabbit called Angus who has his own hutch
1. 5 min walk to 2 wonderful beaches - Cheltenham Beach & Narrowneck Beach.
2. 5 min walk to a delightful group of local shops that includes Chateau Briant, a delectable French cafe/patissere
3. Golf course directly across the road as is the Croquet club
4. 20 min leisurely stroll into Devonport Village. From here you can get the Devonport ferry that in 12 mins will have you to downtown Auckland
